What are veils made from?

A wedding veil is a beautiful addition to your big day ensemble. With such a wide range of designs, lengths, and styles to choose from, there’s something for every blushing bride to proudly display as she glides down the aisle.

Veils are traditionally made from different types of tulle, each of which can add a different effect to the overall finish of your look.

What Are Wedding Veils Made From?

Classic Tulle

Classic tulle is the most common type of fabric used to create stunning wedding veils. It is lightweight, but particularly good at holding its shape which makes it an ideal choice for creating structure in your wedding day look.

Classic tulle is transparent, which means that even with the addition of beading or other embellishments, it will still showcase and accentuate the wedding gown beneath to great effect! It can also be made a range of different colours, including ivory and off-white, to flatter all types of dresses.

Italian Tulle

Italian tulle, also known as soft tulle, is ideal for creating wedding veils that cascade down a bride’s back. This type of gorgeous fabric is silky soft and less structured than classic tulle. These properties make it perfect for creating a drape effect that moves like water as you glide down the aisle.

While classic tulle looks amazing paired with structured wedding dresses, Italian tulle is simply stunning worn with silk gowns and dresses which fit tight to the body.

Netting

While netting is not a type of tulle, it is sometimes used to make wedding veils. You’ll most often see netting used in veils which require a lot of structure, for example birdcage veils with a short blusher. Netting works really well as a material for voluminous veils, however it doesn’t have the same softness that you get with tulle veils.
