What is a single tier veil?
Single tier wedding veils are a popular choice for many brides. They are available in a wide range of styles and lengths, with many designs featuring striking embellishments in the form of freshwater pearls, beading, lace and edging.
Single tier veils are so named because they are formed of a single section of tulle, most commonly attached to a hair comb. This is designed to flow down a bride’s shoulders, back and dress, depending on the length.
There are also single tier veils which do not gather at an affixed comb, instead they are draped on the top of a bride’s head a couple of inches back from the hairline. These are called mantilla veils, and they are secured with the help of hair pins. Alternatively, a comb can be added beneath to create height.
The most important thing to remember about single tier wedding veils is that they do not have a blusher. This is a section of tulle which is traditionally pulled over the bride’s face. Veils with blushers are commonly known as two tier veils because of the two sections.
Single Tier Veil Styles
The beauty of single tier veils is that they are available in such a huge range of styles and lengths to suit all kinds of brides and compliment your chosen wedding gowns effortlessly.
The most common veil lengths are waist, fingertip, full, chapel, and cathedral length. Which length of single tier veil a bride chooses depends on her budget, hairstyle, and chosen gowns. Typically, Cathedral length veils are more expensive because they use more material - but that’s not always the case so be sure to shop around!
When it comes to embellishments for veils, the possibilities are truly endless. Here at Lace & Favour, we stock a gorgeous selection of single-tier veils adorned with shimmering decorations including pearl and satin edges, Swarovski crystals, beads, glitter, floral lace motifs, diamante crystals and sequins.
Finding Your Perfect Veil
For many brides, a veil is a traditional finishing touch that adds to the overall experience of tying the knot. That’s why finding the perfect single tier veil to suit your chosen wedding gown and look is so important. To help you choose, we’ve put together a few recommendations for the type of single tier veil suitable for different types of wedding dress.
For heavily embellished gowns, we recommend a simple single-tier veil with minimal embellishment so as not to distract from the dress. For these kinds of dresses, less is most definitely more. However, the addition of a simple sweeping veil can most definitely add to the beauty of dresses with heavy beading or embellishments. Alternatively, if you’d like to bring extra glamour to your bridal style, a veil adorned with a scattering of Swarovski crystals is just the thing for that extra bit of sparkle.
For simple dresses, with not many embellishments, a veil is a great opportunity to add a bit of drama or glamour depending on what you want. If you want to use your single tier veil to deliver a truly striking style statement, opt for one finished with scalloped edges or lace motifs.
For short wedding dresses, we recommend choosing a shorter single tier veil. We think waist length and birdcage veils look stunning paired with quirky fit and flare dresses, adding a little bit of tradition and a lot of fun!
