Royal Wedding Inspiration

1st December 2017 - View more blog articles

With the announcement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement, the whole of the UK has been thrown into a royal wedding frenzy. So, while we look forward to watching another blushing bride grace the aisle at Windsor Castle, we thought we’d take a look back at some of the past royal bridal looks, and how you can take inspiration for your wedding.

Get The Look: Kate’s Tiara

Wearing a beautiful, lace-detailed gown by Alexander McQueen designer; Sarah Burton, the Duchess of Cambridge looked like a true princess at her wedding to Price William back in 2011. Along with her stunning 1950s inspired dress, Kate wore an applique lace satin fingertip veil, held in place with a vintage Cartier halo tiara. At Lace & Favour we have a stunning range of bridal tiaras that are fit for a princess. Our Ivory and Co Eugenie Vintage Inspired Crystal Bridal Tiara, for example, is influenced by Renaissance styling and perfect to adorn a classic or vintage bridal look, whilst our Linzi Jay Pearl, Crystal and Diamante Bridal Tiara gives a natural twist to a beautifully classic style.

With 25-feet of train and hand-embroidered with sequins and pearls, the beautiful Princess of Wales’ gown for her wedding in 1981 was a true show stopper. Designed by David Emanuel, Diana’s dress helped to spark the 1980s-era trend of big and bold wedding attire. Puffy sleeves and full skirts became the order of the day, and British designers were placed firmly on the map. To recreate Diana’s striking look, why not think about a classic, and truly exquisite, chapel length veil? Our Rainbow Club Nolana Sequin Lace Edge Cathedral Veil is exquisitely handmade in the softest ivory Italian tulle, whilst our Gaia Bohemian Inspired Floral Veil is decorated with a waterfall of gold lace flowers and gives a bohemian edge to the royal look.

Last, but certainly not least, we have Queen Elizabeth II; who wowed on her royal wedding day wearing a beautiful dress by designer Norman Hartnell. Due to the austerity measures during her wedding in 1947 following the war, the Queen had to use clothing ration coupons to pay for her dress! Brides-to-be across the country gifted her hundreds of their own coupons, but they were returned as it was illegal for her to use them. Along with the famous dress, Queen Elizabeth wore a traditional, two strand pearl necklace on her wedding day, a theme that has become a staple in her jewellery wardrobe to this day. To add a touch of traditional elegance to your wedding look, discover our gorgeous collection of bridal pearl necklaces fit for a Queen. Our Arianna Diamante, Pearl and Crystal Wedding Necklace will add a truly timeless beauty to your outfit, whilst our Arianna Long Pearl Backdrop Wedding Necklace is the chicest complement to a low backed dress.
